Sexual Assault Action Month 2026

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) dates back to the early 1970’s. Survivors of sexual violence began to speak out about their experiences. Their rallies and public speeches led to the movement against sexual violence and eventually SAAM. This month is a call to action on how we each can help prevent and stop sexual assault in our communities.

For a more in depth look into the history of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, please visit: The History of SAAM – NSVRC.

Importance of SAAM:

The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. Individuals can embrace their voices to show their support for survivors, stand up to victim blaming, shut down rape jokes, correct harmful misconceptions, promote everyday consent, and practice healthy communications with children.

We know that one month isn’t enough to solve the serious and widespread issue of sexual violence. However, the attention April generates is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts throughout the year.

How To Get Involved:

This Sexual Assault Awareness Month, your voice and actions make a meaningful difference. Together, we can raise awareness, support survivors, and work toward preventing sexual violence in our communities through education, advocacy, and engagement. Participation, whether big or small, helps create safer, more informed communities and demonstrates a collective commitment to supporting survivors and ending sexual violence.

  • Stay connected by following us on social media for timely updates, educational resources, and opportunities to get involved in prevention efforts.
