INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Want to expand your volunteer experience and gain in-depth knowledge in the operation of a social-service agency? If so, an Alternatives to Violence internship may be for you!
Interns have available a wide opportunity of ways to be involved beyond (and in addition to) staffing the 24-hour crisis hotline. From working on a variety of projects including the preparation of outreach materials and assisting with client paperwork, interns have the opportunity to provide child advocacy (and sometimes co-facilitation) at support groups, occasionally assist shelter staff in a variety of tasks, provide transportation for clients, and more. As an additional bonus, interns can frequently arrange to earn (often upperdivision) class credit for their time in areas of study such as sociology, psychology, and criminal justice studies!
During the application process we identify what areas/programs each advocate would be most interested in. You get to choose your emphasis; whether it's domestic violence, sexual assault, or even technology safety we can structure your internship around your skills and interests. Occasionally, it might be possible for interns to receive the additional legal advocacy training that would allow them to assist ATVP's Legal Advocate in providing services (this is subject to need and availability of staff for the training required). Our internship program offers a wide range of opportunities within the scope of our activities. If accepted for an internship, students will work with the Volunteer and Intern Coordinator to design a program of mutual benefit. Opportunities are available for internships on an ongoing basis. In order to provide direct client services, interns must complete our 40-45 hour advocate training. Preference for internships is always given to current volunteer advocates. If you are interested in interning with ATVP, please contact us, or fill out an application. We look forward to hearing from you!
Our agency could not do the work we do without your help!
