Abstract: This presentation will inform participants of the prevalence and dynamics of domestic violence using statistics, the role of power and control in abusive relationships and definitions of psychological, physical, and sexual abuse. Discussion will be based on continuums of domestic violence, barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, and recognizing warning signs of a potential abuser. In addition to information and discussion of domestic violence, this presentation explains ATVP services and the role of an ATVP advocate in assisting a victim/survivor of domestic violence.

Discussing the definition of sexual assault, the explanation of the different types of exams for rape victims and taking the time to walk through a rape kit was very useful.
